Justin Rushmore was heavily involved with dance music since the revolution exploded in the early 90’s. Growing up in the home counties he did his graft as a mobile jock in the mid eighties. As the nineties approached so did a few detours around the M25 where the hazy days of acid house were all the rage. It wasn’t long until Justin was lured to the big lights of the metropolis where he led a highly successful business in an industry dominated by 12” releases. A culture that has evolved so rapidly that today’s generation of dance music fans will never quite appreciate.
Like many of us Justin has now evolved from the inevitable crossroads of life to find a new direction and taken his foot off the hardcore pedal. So in homage to a career and lifestyle of yesteryear, Justin presents his weekly show to dip into the past, triggering memories that characters like you have shared on and off the dancefloors across the world. An eclectic mix of rare grooves, disco, hip hop with spinklings of house and breakbeats.
In the mid 90’s Justin set up the award winning record shop Vinyl Addiction in Camden town, located in the basement of Bar Vinyl, a combined DJ bar café, which alongside the Dogstar in Brixton, was the first of its kind in the UK to have DJs in bars! A genius concept where you could buy tunes, drink beer and meet like minded folk…
Upstairs from Bar Vinyl Justin ran one of the most successful independent record labels of an era – the award winning Finger Lickin’ Records which sold almost a million records and home to the Plump DJs, Krafty Kuts, A Skillz, etc… As a producer under the guise of Soul of Man with creative force Jem Panufnik they recorded and sold well over 100,000 12″s. Remixed The Dub Pistols, Doug Lazy, James Taylor Quartet and many, many others…
As an established and prolific party DJ who has 25+ years of experience performing at over a thousand clubs, events & festivals worldwide. Justin has toured the world dj’ing, Poland to Holland, San Fran to Tokyo, Vancouver to Dubai and everywhere in between. His profile in Australia is legendary having visited friends down under eleven times. Throughout the summer season found on the festival circuit Glastonbury, The Big Chill or Bestival. His DJ skills resulted in being invited to record an Essential mix for Radio1, a mini mix for Annie Mac as well as many other guest spots on Annie Nightingale’s show. He also presented a series of shows on Kiss FM.
Justin has been living in Brighton since early 2000 where he now runs The Bugbar, a ‘pop up’ mobile VW cocktail bar business alongside the DISCOBUG a converted VW DJ booth for functions/festivals and events.
