The BAOL Show, Weekly
Steve KIW is a long suffering pioneer of hitherto unknown musical forms and a genuinely nice chap. Despite many demands on his time he finds three hours a week to share his diverse and cheaply constructed record collection with the world. Each and every Thursday he shares recorded delights from a multitude of genres (all of them Balearic) in an attempt to touch your heart.
Steve has been playing records across Brighton and the UK for over 25 years and put that record shopping experience to good use by writing The Secret List guide to Brighton record shops. He is a founder member of the hirsute tribe of record collectors and DJs known as Balearic Assassins Of Love and records as Andres y Xavi with 1BTN’s WWWG maestro Glenn Fallows. He plays records, and, unless under severe duress, only records. He has no time for digital formats and knows that by declaring this he sounds like a hipster but he doesn’t care. He has been around longer than hipsters and will be around after they’ve had a shave and moved on.
Over the years Steve has graced the decks at hundreds of parties and festivals but also mentions playing for Norman Jay at his Good Times parties as the one gig he is most proud of. In recent years Steve has played at pretty much every event on the Balearic scene and, through BAOL, has found himself DJing in all manner of odd locations across Europe. He has been with 1BTN since day one and, in addition to hosting the weekly BAOL show, he contributes the Sermon mixes and writes features for our website.
There are rumours circulating that he doesn’t like country music or reggae. When pushed he doesn’t deny it.
